They’ve found Alice

July 24th, 2008

Tim Burton has finally found his Alice; something I’ve actually been wondering about for months. There weren’t really a lot of clues to who would be cast for the role of little Alice as she gets stuck in Wonderland. They’ve decided on Mia Wasikowska. I really had to look up that name because I never hear of her before. She’s seventeen and from Australia and is best known so far for her role in the HBO series In Treatment.

If I had to put money on who would have gotten the role I had actually said AnnaSophia Robb seeing she already worked with Tim Burton and she has worked with Disney. As I said I don’t know whether Mia is a good actress or not; I just know that she’s a bit old to play Alice. Alice from the book isn’t even close to being seventeen years old.

The movie will be a combination between live action and performance capture which I’m not too sure about. Beowulf sucked in my eyes and that was completely performance capture, I don’t really see the advantage over live action in certain cases. So I hope that performance capture will be limited to the more difficult parts of the Wonderland part.

I have no doubt that this will launch Mia Wasikowska in Hollywood though, Tim Burton movies usually are a good place to start. Though it’s no guarantee for a long career.

Small Chart Update

July 24th, 2008

A Quick chart update, nothing major. Miley Cyrus’ 7 things has dropped to number thirteen in the Billboard Hot 100, I shouldn’t try to predict chart performance. Especially not with a song going up and down like 7 Things has been doing in recent weeks (even if it’s only a couple of spots at a time).

Her album was released this week of course; so far I’ve seen mostly positive reviews. A number one spot is not guaranteed though, even though it seems to be selling better than her previous one the Sugarland album is selling far better than expected (despite it being a best off album). The week is not over yet so who knows what the end result will be, Breakout is expected to sell up to 400.000 copies in its first week though.

Miley Cyrus’ Breakout

July 21st, 2008

Miley’s first real solo album has now been released; her first two albums made it to number one on the charts but with the first Hannah Montana Soundtrack it was just as Hannah and with Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus it was a double disc. So now we have to see how she does on her own, will she be able to keep her number one streak going. Miley has stated the album is The Killers and Melissa Etheridge inspired, we’ll have to see if that’s an accurate assessment.

We know where and when

July 18th, 2008

We now know when and where the ACDC vs. M&M cru with a U will take place. It will be on the 3rd of August at the Teen Choice Awards, which means it will be aired on the 4th of August.

I suspected it was going to be there, looking at Miley’s busy schedule that was a major event she has to attend. Seeing she’s the host of the event it’s an obvious choice to do it there. There is also a rumor out there that they tried to sell the dance battle to another network as well. Makes me think that Fox is actually paying them to do it there.

Even though this thing still feels planned from the start I doubt they expected it to go this far. Really seems like everything Miley touches becomes big.

Personal Best for Miley

July 17th, 2008

One week before her new album drop stores Miley Cyrus’ 7 Things has moved up a spot in the Billboard 100 which means a personal chart record for Miley; seeing See You Again never made it past #10 and 7 Things is now at #9. Right now it’s the song in the top ten which has been there for the fewest number of weeks.

I actually have no idea how well the album will do next week; it shouldn’t be forgotten that this album contains no Hannah Montana at all. So you have to wonder about how big the Hannah Montana factor is. That and what a lot of people will be saying the negative press lately; though I personally think it won’t really hurt her. If people like the music they’ll still buy it. Look out for a review of the album on Starletviews next week.

Teenager gets extended

July 17th, 2008

ABC Family has ordered thirteen more episodes of The Secret Life of the American Teenager. Originally the show only had ten episodes but due to it’s success it has bee extended. The extra episodes will start airing in January.

So that means extra work for Shailene Woodley, she does a good job in the show though I’m honestly still not convinced about the show concept itself. But a lot of people like it and that’s the most important thing.

Downtime

July 17th, 2008

There was some downtime for Starletviews.com due to a failed software update. This means the site was offline for about ten hours, our apologies for the inconvenience.

The site is now back to the old software version.

Hayden has a music video

July 16th, 2008

I’ve been wondering why Hollywood Records kept delaying the debut of Hayden Panettiere as a singer. She has been on the soundtrack of two Disney movies but now her first music video for the song called Wake Up Call has been released on the internet. I can now say I understand why it has been delayed.

Simple answer is; the song isn’t very good. No idea why they chose for a regae sound for her first song. Plainly said the song is just boring, the overdone music beat overpowers Hayden’s voice. I’ve never been very impressed by her voice and this just doesn’t either, it doesn’t sound different; it’s just another voice.

I also have to wonder what person decided that it would be a good idea for Hayden to rap in the song. She isn’t exactly a bad ass person. The entire video seems quite random anyway, can’t really detect a them to it. Just a lot of close ups, disco lights and other things. The exact date for her debut album isn’t known yet but I hope it will be a lot better than this. The problem just is that first singles often are the best songs of an album. So if that’s true for her album I’ll be asleep after listening it.

Saoirse Ronan in an adventure

July 16th, 2008

Saoirse Ronan will star in the family adventure movie The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. The movie is based on the novel by the same name by Edward Irving Wortis, it’s about a young girl (which will be played by Saoirse of course) that has an adventure aboard a ship with a mean captain and a mutinous crew. The script was written by Danny DeVito and will also be directed by him but he won’t appear on screen. The two producers however will be in the movie; Pierce Brosnan and Morgan Freeman.

There’s no way around it; that is one impressive line up. Saoirse herself already had an Oscar nomination but working with Danny, Pierce and Morgan will just teach her a lot. The genre is right up Danny DeVito’s alley I would say, he’s the one responsible for turning Matilda into a movie with great success. So this can only be good for her.

Edition 52: Morals and Integrity

July 14th, 2008

While I was doing my rounds on the internet today I stumbled across something regarding the latest leaked Miley Cyrus pictures (assuming that they’re real for now anyway, it’s still possible they’re fake but the consequence of the pictures is nonetheless the same). It was a link to the actual forum the pics were leaked on, I’m obviously not going to post that link but it doesn’t matter anyway. There are plenty of sites that have posted it. Seems that the forum owners aren’t too happy about that because it got them a lot of extra unwanted traffic. It is in principle a forum about anything (I think) but has turned into a Miley picture only forum.

When I saw the posts that were made by the person that leaked them it just pissed me off and I don’t get pissed off easily. It’s not so much about that they were leaked but the guy’s twisted reasoning for leaking them. This person claims to have had access to Miley’s email for months and that he spied on her continuously. At some point however he lost access due to a password change and that’s when he released the pictures. I’m still convinced that the pictures aren’t actually that bad but not everyone agrees with that view and the person releasing these knows that.
